Are you a Muslim?
ARE YOU MUSLIM? ARE YOU ATTENDING THE DEMONSTRATION ON 20TH JUNE OPPOSING THE ENGLISH DEFENCE LEAGUE?
We firmly believe that one of the main reasons the English Defence League had originally planned to demonstrate on 20th June is to provoke the Muslim community so that we react violently. The EDL want to show everyone that Islam is a religion of violence. As Muslims we know that this is not true, but our actions have to match our beliefs.
Please remember the following during the demonstration:
1. No violence
2. No swearing or insulting others
3. No provoking the police
4. Respect those around you
5. Keep the peace
6. Follow the advice of stewards and police
The Council of Mosques is working very closely with the Police to ensure that our mosques, demonstrators, friends and family are all safe on the day of the demonstration, so please make sure you listen to the advice of all stewards and Police on the day. If they ask us to do something, it’s for our own good.
Of course our emotions are running high, but as Muslims our actions should always be in line with the teachings of Islam; our demonstration must be lawful and peaceful even in the face of provocation. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was provoked and verbally abused on many occasions, but he endured this with sabr (patience and constancy).
“Bear, then, with patience, all that they say, and celebrate the praises of thy Lord, before the rising of the sun and before (its) setting.” [Surah Qaf, 50:39]
“Repel evil with that which is best: We are well acquainted with the things they say.” [Surah Al-Muminun, 23:96]
IF YOU LOVE ISLAM, DON’T LET IT DOWN
