One of the clear challenges in the borough of Tower Hamlets is the high level of worklessness. The Council of Mosques is seeking to assist in addressing this issue and has secured funding from July 2009 to work in partnership with the Community Consortium against Poverty (CCAP) to deliver an employment project under the Access2Work banner. This project is driven by a mobile employment advisor based in the CoM office, providing comprehensive information, advice and guidance services to local people seeking employment.
This project aims at effective client engagement; identifying key and more importantly real barriers to employment; and addressing these barriers through effective action planning. Covering the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, this service is demand-led so to address unemployment issues in areas where these issues are disproportionately high.
